7-Year-Old | Blue Roan Overo Gelding | Former Bucking Horse
Frog Walkin’ Bill came to Broken Arrow with a little different résumé than most.
Before becoming a saddle horse, Frog made his living as a bucking horse. Big, athletic, powerful, and plenty capable of getting a rider on the ground, he came to us with a past—but without the foundation he needed for the next chapter of his life.
Rather than trying to erase what Frog already knew, the goal has been to give him the tools to become a confident, thinking, useful horse.
FROM BUCKING HORSE TO WORKING HORSE
Frog’s training has focused heavily on confidence, softness, independence, and real-world experience. He has been hauled across the country, ridden in the mountains, exposed to cattle, long days, changing environments, new horses, and situations that require him to think rather than simply wait for his rider to make every decision for him.
During his time out West, Frog has covered country, worked cattle, navigated trails and rough terrain, and spent long hours learning what it means to have a job. On his 36th ride, he helped push roughly 80 calves in 36-degree weather—a pretty good change of occupation for a horse that once went to work trying to buck people off.
He isn't being developed to look impressive for thirty minutes in an arena. He's being developed to be useful.
THE HORSE
Frog is a big, striking gelding with considerably more to him than his looks.
He is athletic, intelligent, sensitive, and capable of handling pressure, but he also has opinions and enough life experience to make you earn his trust. His progress has been a lesson in knowing when to ask for more, when to wait, and when to let the horse find the answer.
As his rides have accumulated, Frog has learned to soften, travel on a loose rein, handle new situations with more confidence, and look to his rider for direction without becoming dependent on constant micromanagement.
There have been imperfect rides. There have been challenges to work through. And that's exactly why his story matters.
Good horsemanship isn't measured by never encountering a problem. It's measured by what you build when you do.
WHY FROG MATTERS TO BROKEN ARROW
Frog represents a lot of what “Creating the Working Man’s Mount” means to us.
Not every good horse starts with the perfect pedigree, perfect upbringing, or perfect résumé. Sometimes the raw material comes with baggage. Sometimes progress isn't linear. Sometimes you have to meet the horse standing in front of you rather than force him into somebody else's timeline.
Build confidence.
Establish boundaries.
Create softness.
Give them a job.
And ultimately produce a horse capable of thinking for himself while remaining willing to work with his rider.
Frog Walkin’ Bill is still writing his story—but he's come a long way from the bucking horse we started with.
And that's exactly the kind of story we like around here.
