RUEBEN
6-Year-Old | 14.1 HH | Dark Bay John Mule
Rueben is the kind that reminds you why good mules earn such a loyal following.
At 6 years old and standing approximately 14.1 hands, Rueben is a handy, athletic John mule with real-world experience and a personality that's hard not to love. He's been used outside, worked cattle, roped, covered country, and has proven himself to be the kind of mount that can go do a job when there's work to be done.
He's not just broke to ride—he's useful.
BUILT FOR A JOB
Rueben has spent his time doing considerably more than making circles in an arena.
He's been ridden outside extensively, used around cattle, roped off of, hauled, exposed to new country, and trusted for the kind of riding where you need your mount to pay attention to his feet and take care of himself.
He is sure-footed, capable, and athletic with plenty of motor when you ask for it. He's comfortable covering country and has the ability to step up when there's a job in front of him.
Rueben has also been ridden by kids and can be an absolute gentleman, but he is still a mule—and a smart, athletic one at that. He does best with a confident rider who understands how to communicate clearly and appreciates the intelligence and personality that comes with a good mule.
THE MULE
Rueben may be useful, but he's far from all business.
He's personable, curious, and downright funny. He's the kind that will back himself halfway across the pasture if he thinks there's a chance you'll scratch his butt, and he's usually somewhere nearby wondering what you're doing and whether he should be involved.
Under saddle, Rueben is responsive and athletic. He has enough life and ability to be fun for someone who wants to go do something, while having the miles and experience that only come from actually being used.
He isn't being represented as a dead-headed, put-anybody-on-him type of mule. He's intelligent, has plenty of feel, and is best appreciated by someone who enjoys having a partner underneath them rather than simply a passenger vehicle.
WHY RUEBEN FITS BROKEN ARROW
Rueben embodies the “Creating the Working Man's Mount” philosophy in perhaps the most literal way.
He's been asked to work.
He's covered country, handled cattle, carried different riders, learned to navigate real situations, and been given the opportunity to think for himself rather than having every stride micromanaged.
The goal at Broken Arrow has never been to create horses—or mules—that only know how to behave inside four arena walls.
We want them to have a foundation that translates into the real world.
Rueben has exactly that.
